- World Cruising Routes
– Jimmy Cornell – need I say more – the most complete collection of routes from South Seas to The Arctic.
- The Annapolis Book of Seamanship
– John Rousemaniere – boat load of information
- Adrift: Seventy-Six Days Lost at Sea
– Steven Callahan – account of his 77 days spent in the life raft – once started impossible to put it down.
- Changing Course : A Woman’s Guide to Choosing the Cruising Life
– Debra Ann Cantrell – a must read if you hoping to bring your wife along.
- How to sail around the world – Hal Roth – very down to earth account of what it takes to live aboard and sail – no bull shit here.
Not sailing related:
- A Fly Fisher’s Life: The Art and Mechanics of Fly Fishing
– Charles Ritz – a classic but hard to read – so don’t take it on the plane.
- Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions
– Dan Ariely – very interesting if you wan to understand what makes as do that we do.
- Salt: A World History
– Mark Kurlansky – history of salt and how it changed the world.
- Give Me a Break
– John Stossel – worth every penny – unless you are Democrat or Republican – on the other hand specially if you are.
- Me Talk Pretty One Day
– David Sedaris – funny, entertaining, take it on the plane book.
- Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed the World
– Dan Koeppel – you will never feel the same about this popular fruit.
